Busan Container Terminal began construction in 1974 under the Busan Port Comprehensive Development Plan. In 1978, Pier No.5 opened with 2 berths for 50,000ton class vessels, an operational first in Korea. In 1983, Pier No.6 was extended as part of Phase II of its development. Also, a feeder berth for 10,000ton was extended in 1996 to meet the requirement for specialized cargo.
Hutchison Ports Busan has a quay length of 1,447 meters that enables four 50,000ton class vessels and one 10,000ton class feeder vessel to berth alongside simultaneously. Its container yard has a stacking capacity of 44,681 TEU, and the total area of two CFS is 19,750sqm. Hutchison Ports Busan also has a dedicated area for dangerous containerized cargo with a stacking capacity of 331 TEU.
